Getting ThereAs you will see from the map Croatia is much closer than you thought. As the crow flies Croatia is much the same distance as the Costa Brava in Spain. By AirAt the moment there are only two airlines travelling direct from the UK to Croatia. Croatia Airlines
Croatia Airlines run the majority of flights with flights to Split on a Saturday from London Heathrow. At present there are no regional alternatives for Split on a Saturday. Further information can be obtained from Croatia Airlines. British Airways
From Spring 2005 British Airways will be scheduling flights to Dubrovnik and Split. At present there is no guarantee that BA will be flying to Split on Saturdays. Further information may be available in due course from the British Airways Website. Alternatives
The careful traveller may wish to explore the possibility of utilising lower cost and budget airline flights into Italy and then using the ferry or a hire car to complete the route to Trogir. Flying to Ancona in Italy and then taking the ferry to Split is one relatively straightforward option. As is flying to Trieste and hiring a car there to complete your journey (make sure the insurance providing by the hire company covers you outside of Italy). By Car
It is quite feasible to drive from the UK to Croatia. Either by driving direct to your destination or drive to an Italian port and then take a car ferry across. The route you take would depend on whether you drive direct or via a ferry trip from Italy. Some prefer to drive through Belgium, Germany, Austria and Slovenia avoiding motorway tolls. An alternative is a drive through France and Italy branching at Milan to head direct via Trieste or through Bologna to Ancona and across the Adriatic by Ferry to Split. The options, of course, are practically endless given the extensive network of motorways in most European countries. But remember the final leg of the journey in Croatia will not be on motorways. By Train
Whilst it is possible to travel from the UK to Split by train it is best left to the expert train traveller. For the intrepid adventurer however a journey via Paris, Munich and Zagreb and onwards to Split will require 2 overnight trips. Or, of course, train to Ancona in Italy and ferry to Split is an option. By Bus
There are bus routes to Croatia from most European Countries. From the UK a service is available from Victoria Coach Station in London serving destinations in Croatia. Further information can be obtained from Eurolines
